New bridge soon to come
If you’re interested in old structures and photography, you may want to get your camera out to photograph the old deck truss bridge on Huron Terrace in Kincardine. The bridge will soon be torn down and replaced by a wider structure with a 13-foot (4-metre) sidewalk on the west side to allow for safer viewing of the lake and harbour area for pedestrians. Poplar Beach leases won’t be renewed in 2010

Those complaining that there are not enough lake accesses or public beach areas may like the idea of a possible new public area, but those who lease land at Poplar Beach to put their cottages may see it a little different. Full story

Dynamite detonated in Walkerton

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sept 29, a Walkerton resident contacted the South Bruce OPP and advised that he found something on the shore of the Saugeen River in Walkerton on Saturday September 27. Full story

 

Rollover collision leads to arrest

Constable Joanna Van Mierlo says that numerous charges face a Central Huron man including resisting arrest and assaulting an officer following an incident that happened on the roadside on September 28. Full story

 

Woman charged with street racing

A London woman said goodbye to her driver’s licence and her car for a week on September 29 after being caught speeding excessivly. Full story

 

ATV hit and run

The driver to an ATV will have some explaining to do to Perth County OPP after leaving the scene of a collision with a mini-van near the Village of Monkton. Full story

 

Speeding stop leads to drug seizure

On September 28, 2008 at approximately 11:30 p.m. a vehicle was stopped on Bayfield Road for speeding, however criminal charges were in store for one of the passengers. Full story

 

Man injured packing shells

Perth County OPP responded to a call for assistance on September 25 at 8:55 p.m. on Perth Line 39 in Ellice Ward, where a 21-year-old man and some friends were attempting to reload five 303 shells when the unexpected happened. Full story

Fatal collision in Brockton

South Bruce OPP responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred at about 6:40 p.m. on Sept 24, 2008 that cost a 19-year-old his life. Full story

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on September 11, 2008 a vehicle was travelling southbound on Harper Line in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh when the driver lost control and rolled into a ditch coming to rest in a pasture. Full story

Vehicle stop leads to drug charges

On September 20, 2008 at approximately 10:15 p.m. Huron OPP officers were on general patrol in Goderich when they stopped a motor vehicle with four young male occupants after one of the rear seat passengers was observed standing up on the rear seat. Full story

 

Chesley man arrested for Domestic Assault

On Monday September 22, 2008 at about 5:20pm South Bruce OPP received a 911 hang-up from a residence in Chesley. Full story

Huron Terrace Bridge in Kincardine to be replaced

An old Kincardine landmark spanning the Pentangore River near the lighthouse and the Walker House is to be replaced by a new structure, at a cost of 3.1 million. Full story

 

Clear garbage bags not law in Huron-Kinloss

Workers at Huron-Kinloss landfills and those who collect garbage each week won’t be sticking their faces up to clear garbage bags or inspecting every piece of trash to ensure “prohibited items” are not hidden away inside any time soon in the township. Full story

 

No steel wheels on Huron-Kinloss roads

After hearing from Public Works Superintendent Hugh Nichol for years that steel wheels were doing damage to township roads, Huron-Kinloss council decided to try to put an end to problems and will no longer permit steel-wheeled vehicles on township roads. Full story

Karen Sweiger, Rabies Program Manager of the Grey Bruce Health Unit says that “test results received September 4, 2008, confirm rabies in a bat from the Point Clark area”, adding, “This is the fourth rabid animal report in Grey Bruce for 2008.” Full story

Lake Range Drive in Huron-Kinloss will be safer and nicer to drive on now that it’s pothole and cold-patch free. A fresh coat of asphalt runs from Concession 2 northward to Aintree Road, (Concession 12), where the “new extension,” begins. The extension, a $900,000 project was built in 2007 to alleviate traffic on Boiler Beach Road and keep residents safely moving along, with fewer distractions from beach-goers and pedestrians. Huron-Kinloss resident concerned with commercial grade Roundup on the lakeshore

Lurgan Beach was treated with a herbicide on July 24-25 in order to kill the phragmites australis. The township dragged applicators across everything where the reeds were present. They used commercial grade Roundup.   Read this letter and more letters by clicking here

Reader believes pay increases should be earned, not taken for granted

I am not sure if I am being realistic or unreasonable when I say that when (and if) the Bruce County Health Unit workers receive an increase in anything at all (benefits, wages, etc.), there should also be an increase in the level of work provided to the community.
