The severance of the Attawandaron Road Park put $18,000 towards the floor of the Point Clark Community Centre.

Last year, many residents in the Attawandaron Road area of Point Clark were upset with the severance and sale of a portion of their park and wondered where the proceeds would be used.

Although upset with the sale, those with children who use the park were happy to know that the money was being used towards “park maintenance and playground equipment,” according to past clerk Laura Haight.

Since then, things have changed.

Treasurer Jodi MacArthur says that $18,000 of the money went into the new hardwood floor for the community centre instead. The severed lot sold for about $22,000.

The money raised by the Point Clark Beach Association, the Huron Lakeshore Friendship Club, the Point Clark Business Association and the Point Clark Kinsmen, intended to be used towards the floor was not needed and instead, put into a reserve fund.

MacArthur say the sale of a lot on Park Street in Ripley, where the old township shed was located went towards the Ripley fire hall expansion.

“That lot went for approximately $22,000 and helped offset the cost of the addition to the fire hall,” say MacArthur.

“The firemen used it for equipment storage, but no longer needed it due to the addition. We decided to move the shed to the community centre for use by the parks and recreation department,” she says.
