ACW youth dies from injuries

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on September 11, 2008 a vehicle was travelling southbound on Harper Line in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh when the driver lost control and rolled into a ditch coming to rest in a pasture.

The vehicle contained three 16-year-old males and one 17-year-old male, all from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh area.

One male was not injured, two were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Wingham Hospital and the fourth male was transferred to London Health Sciences Centre with critical injuries.

A portion of Harper Line was closed as OPP Technical Collision Investigators pieced together the scene. Although the investigation is still ongoing, it would appear that speed and seatbelt non-use were factors in the collision.

On September 21, 2008 James David Menary, 17, of ACW died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision. Menary was the driver in the collision.

Members of the Huron OPP wish to remind motorists and passengers in motor vehicles to always wear a seatbelt while inside a moving vehicle. Wearing a seatbelt properly is the number one way to prevent or reduce injury in the event of a collision.
