Firewood should be bought locally to save area trees

By Geoff Peach of the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation

The Ontario Woodlot Association is warning against moving cut wood from other regions to the Lake Huron shoreline as presently, many invasive pests such as Emerald Ash Borer are threatening the very existence of your trees and Lake Huron's forests.

Moving firewood from your home areas (for example Michigan, Lambton, Essex, Kent, Norfolk, Elgin, Middlesex Counties as well as the London, K-W and Toronto areas)…will move these bugs to your cottage and camping areas. It is illegal to do this and there are fines if you get caught.

Please do not move firewood to your cottage or campsites from home!

–buy locally.
