Car thefts continue in the area

South Bruce OPP is investigating several thefts from vehicles in the Township of Kincardine and in Walkerton recently.

Constable Jim Conrad says that on July 4, 2008 a Sirius Radio system model number SV3TK1C was stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Inverness Street North in Kincardine.

He says that several other vehicles were entered on Huron Ridge Cr. overnight on July 12-13, 2008 and a electric guitar, an amplifier and a couple patch cords were stolen.

Walkerton is also seeing it’s share of thefts from cars.

Conrad says that South Bruce OPP is investigating the theft of a cell phone from an unlocked truck parked on Westwood drive in the Town of Walkerton.

The theft was not reported when it went missing as the owner felt he had lost his phone. The owner has since received a large phone bill. The stolen phone is made by Samsung.

Entry to unlocked vehicles continues to concern south Bruce OPP

“Theft from unlocked vehicles continues to be a concern for police. Locking a vehicle is the first deterrent for protecting your property,” he says.

As South Bruce OPP’s Community Services and Media Relations Officer, Conrad expresses the frustration the Police are having with people who leave their vehicles unlocked and their valuables in their vehicles.

"I took over the position as the Community Services Officer over seven months ago and cannot believe the number of thefts we are having from unlocked vehicles. We have been warning the public, conducting spot checks on the main streets of Kincardine and Walkerton and yet we are seeing five to six calls a week".

Conrad says that anyone with information on any of the on-going thefts is asked to contact the South Bruce OPP at 519-396-3341, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, (1-800-222-TIPS).
