Information remains sketchy regarding what caused of the collapse of a section of a construction site at the 18 Mile Bridge, between Amberley and Lucknow on the Amberley Road, (Bruce County Road 86).

Bruce County highways engineer Brian Knox says he wants to clarify that this was a construction accident. Listen to him explain by clicking here.

The Ministry of Labour is spearheading the investigation into why the section of scaffolding collapsed while 500 tonnes of concrete was being poured for the deck of the bridge.

A handful of workers were injured in the mishap. Two remain in hospital and will recover from their injuries.

Bruce County Warden and Huron-Kinloss mayor Mitch Twolan says he believes the Ministry of Environment and the Department of Oceans and Fisheries will also be investigating. Hear what Twolan has to say by clicking here.

Twolan says since the 18 mile River Bridge is a boundary bridge, both Bruce and Huron Counties will split the cost of project.

When tendered, that cost was nearly $700,000.

Any late penalties that Allen Hastings Limited accumulates will be deducted from original cost.
