Two Huron-Kinloss parks may see some new equipment Parks and Recreation superviser Mike Fair reported to Huron-Kinloss council that the September 18, 2007 Parks, Recreation and Tourism Committee (PRTC) meeting brought up some concerns regarding lack of equipment at three of the township’s parks, including the Point Clark Community Centre Park, Blue Park, and Pearl Elizabeth Park. Although Fair agreed that all three parks could use some equipment, it’s doubtful all will receive it. Fair reported to council, “During the meeting I agreed with the PRTC that there is a lack of equipment at these locations, however I have reservations regarding all the sites.” Fair said that “It was discussed in 1999 council for the Super Build Grant Application that we focus our attention on providing quality parks at strategic locations and that development of new parks should be reviewed very carefully.” Those who want to see improvements to the smaller, neighbourhood parks may want to ask council in the form of letters when they believe their park needs attention or upgrades. Fair told council, “It is with this caution and further consideration that since we do not have a history of requests for park upgrades at any of these locations, that we proceed investigating the Point Clark Community Centre Park and review the Blue Park location as well.” Other than the $30,000 donation from Suncor for the $231,000 Lewis Park rebuild in the Village of Ripley, there is good news for those in other areas of the township who enjoy taking their children to the park without having to drive very far. “Fortunately there is a new grant program sponsored by Hydro One ($25,000.00),” he said. This grant program is only available for charitable organizations and Municipalities) in areas that Hydro One is the local Electricity Supplier. Fair recommend proceeding with the Point Clark Community Centre Park, and Blue Park site review, and leave Pearl Elizabeth off the agenda for now. “I would also prefer a comprehensive review of all the Parks to determine if current playability is adequate and appropriate.” Council agreed. |
