Point Clark woman shows pride and support Susan Barwell runs Shady Bend Studios is doing her best to help out the brave members of the Canadian Armed Forces and their families and would like to see others join in her support. Barwell feels strongly that our troops should not be forgotten, not only around the Christmas season and Remembrance Day, but the rest of the year as well. Although the kick-off to her fundraiser starts Nov 11, she says, “T he Candle of Courage will be available all year, as the troops don’t take a rest from their contribution. She believes our troops deserve the support of those of us that “enjoy the freedoms and benefits” they so unselfishly fight for. Barwell has created a 5oz jar Candle called the “Candle of Courage” to help raise money for military families and to “always keep the Canadian Forces in the light of everyone. ” More than half of the proceeds go to the Canadian Forces Military Families Fund, which was created by General Rick Hillier Chief of the Defence Staff in the spring of 2007. “Half the proceeds” however is not exactly the case, as the labour and time are not included, only the cost of making the product. Simply said, it’s a labour of love and respect. Barwell profits little from all her hard work, other than the satisfaction she is doing something good for our troops and their families. The candles are red with a yellow ribbon, hand painted on the lid and jar by Barwell in her studio. It comes in five scents, Victorian Christmas, Rejuvenation, Citrus Pomegranate, French Vanilla and Unscented For more information, contact Susan Barwell at Shady Bend Studios in Point Clark at 519-395-4684 or visit http://webspawner.com/users/shadybendstudios/index.html You can email Barwell at bernieandsusan@hurontel.on.ca |
