Not for those afraid of heights This is how it looked on Wed. Aug. 8, 2007 from turbine site 5 A on Side Road 30 in Huron Township, as a section of tower was being carefully set into place on the Ripley Wind project. Above gives an idea of just how massive these turbines are, in comparison to the workers. Below shows how (in a matter of minutes), the huge section was hoisted off the ground by the skilled crane operator and lifted to the awaiting crew, who safely guided the piece into place. (Darrell Ziegler photos)
Bigger than they seem If you think they look gigantic from the highway, the below photo gives an idea of just how huge the units are when an average automobile is parked beside a set of blades laid out beside a partially assembled turbine.
Lots of parts Below gives an indication of what maintenance workers will see when doing quarterly oil changes and regular up-keep. Luckily for them, they can take an elevator to the top.
A view from turbine site 5 A Below is how the landscape looked on Aug 8, 2007, as viewed from site 5A, located on Side Road 30, looking South-East at four assembled turbines.
