Extension of services turned down in Lucknow Not everyone received good news from the Oct 1 meeting of Huron-Kinloss council concerning public works. Public works superintendent Hugh Nichol said he received a letter of request by the owner of 1136 Bruce Road 86 regarding the servicing of his property with municipal water and sanitary sewers. He said, “our records show properties 383, 375 and 369, which are located within the village limits, are serviced by both municipal water and sanitary, while properties 371 and 373, which are located in the former Kinloss Township have municipal water only. A one-inch line from Walter Street services the three properties within the village, which then reduces to two, 5/8-inch service lines to feed the Kinloss properties. Nichol said that allowing the owner to connect via extension of existing services “is not good management of our utility infrastructure. The sanitary system was designed to service the Village of Lucknow, not township properties, while pressure concerns already exist within the water distribution system.” “History also indicates if we allow one to connect, others will follow. I believe an engineering study to determine the capacity boundaries of the existing water and sanitary sewer should occur before any decision is made to expand beyond the village limits.” |
