Etobicoke man drowns near Kincardine South Bruce OPP has concluded their search for the 45-year-old Etobicoke man who was last seen in Lake Huron last at 5:00 p.m. on June 28, 2008 after the body was found the following day by a cottage resident. Constable Jim Conrad says that two men entered Lake Huron north of MacCaskell Road in the Municipality of Kincardine believing three teens that were kayaking were in distress and went out to assist them. After making to the teens and assisting them towards shore, one of the men dropped out of sight. One of the teens grabbed him and pulled him up to the surface. When both were pulled under the teen had to let go in order to stay above the surface himself. The 45-year-old Etobicoke man was not seen after slipping below the surface. Many helped in the search and rescue efforts. Conrad says the South Bruce OPP used the rescue ship “H.H Graham 2,” the Kincardine Fire Department using ATV and their thermal imaging camera, the London Air Ambulance assisting with an air search, the Coast Guard, and numerous civilian assisted with water and shoreline search. South Bruce OPP suspended search efforts due to weather conditions and darkness. The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit as well as members of the Emergency Response teams were in Kincardine again on the morning of Saturday, June 29 to assist with the search. His body was located on the beach a short distance north of MacCaskill Road in the Municipality of Kincardine by a cottage resident. South Bruce OPP and Victim Services Bruce, Grey and Owen Sound have been assisting the family. The incident remains under investigation. |
