"Beauty and Nature in Huron-Kinloss "

Huron-Kinloss and area photo archives

This little red fox was seen near the top of the hill on Concession 2 near Point Clark by reader Brenda Mason on May 13, 2007, at about 7:30 p.m. Mason noticed that the tail had very little fur and was surprised it did not run away quicker than it did. (Brenda Mason photos)

Cleaning up Huron-Kinloss

There was no shortage of trash to be found in the township on Sunday, April 29, on “Pitch in Canada day,” put on by the township’s parks and recreation department. Above, volunteers from the Coast FM and the H-K Observer add their garbage to the heap, From left front are Lynda Cooper and Angela Ziegler, back from left are Jesse Savage, Amanda Savage and volunteer Jan Kelly. Below, Angela Ziegler wonders how she will fit any more garbage into the trunk that the group picked up on Lake Range in Point Clark. (Darrell Ziegler photos)

Road safety in Huron-Kinloss

The time has come again for deer to be a regular sight on the way to work in the morning. These deer were seen taking their spring refresher course in road safety on Thursday, March 15, 2007 on Lake Range Drive. In the above photo, they are reminded to stand a safe distance to the side of the road until traffic is stopped in both directions. Below, they walk in single file and in an orderly manner. Deer leaders hope that by promoting safety and offering the free course, both deer and humans will benefit by seeing less deer/car collisions. (Angela Ziegler photos)

This is how it looked at the Point Clark lighthouse on March 6, 2007, following the big storm of the year, (one of them). (Darrell Ziegler photo)

Talkin’ turkey with the Mayor

Although many people show up at the Lake Range Realty office to speak with Huron-Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan, these visitors, pictured above, were quite a surprise. An employee of Rick Elliott Construction alerted Twolan that there were some unexpected guests waiting outside in the summer of 2006, three wild turkeys. Unfortunately, there was a communications gap, as neither Twolan, nor the employee could gobble. It is unknown if the birds needed some construction work done, if they were in the market to buy a house or if they were holding some type of peaceful political protest. The birds left without incident, their visit remains a mystery. (Mitch Twolan photo)

Lookin’ for lunch

The young hawk pictured above was seen eyeing up the bird feeders in the back yard of a Point Clark home fall of 2006. (Darrell Ziegler photo)

Catching up to mom

This little deer, above, seemed to be in a bit of a hurry to catch up to Mama Deer as it scampered along the pasture on Lake Range Drive just north of Concession 2. (Darrell Ziegler photo)
