Westario customers get a break Those fed up with higher gas prices and higher taxes have about $7.14 to spend on groceries and other essentials, thanks to a cut in electricity rates. Customers on Westario Power will be paying less for electricity starting May 1, 2008. According to CEO Guy Cluff, the monthly bill for an average residential customer should be 5.8 per cent less, equaling about $7.14 per month, or $85.68 per year for customers who average 1,000 kilowatts hours per month. The reason for the drop, according to Cluff, is that costs associated with changes in the electricity market have been recovered. Businesses and small stores will see a 3.2 per cent decrease, while rates for larger electricity users, (small manufacturers and department stores), will see an average decrease of 1.2 to 1.3 per cent. Westario services about 21,000 customers including those in Ripley and Lucknow, as well as customers in Kincardine, Saugeen Shores, Hanover, Walkerton, Clifford, Elmwood, Mildmay, Teeswater, Neustadt, Wingham, Harriston, and Palmerston. |
